Mishvonna Henson gained national exposure after being featured on two seasons of American Idol. In 2007, she auditioned and went to Hollywood Week. The following year, she auditioned and became one of the shows “Top 36.”

Henson is very upbeat when talking about her experience. She said she knows there is a reason she didn’t win the show.  “I know what the reason is,” Henson said. “I wouldn’t have been able to sing country. Now I can.”

The experience on Idol did give her some memories and some great friends. She said it was an enriching experience, but the show was very stressful. During the show, she said the contestants bonded because they understood what each other was going through. “Honestly, everyone [was] like a big family.”

Now, Mishavonna is 19 years old and she’s working on a full-length album. She said that it’s completely written, but she still needs to get the songs recorded. She’s been writing now for about four years and said she’s become a better writer. “It’s hard for me to get started because I’m a bit of a perfectionist,” she said.

The songs on the CD are based upon Henson’s personal experiences. She hinted that there are songs about lots of boys, “boys that are completely ridiculous.” She explained there is a fun song on the CD called “Roller Coaster,” about one boy that so up and down.

Henson said a person attending her concert should expect it to be loud and to have a lot of fun. They should also expect to hear at least one Bonnie Raitt cover. Raitt is one of Henson’s major influences. The cover isn’t always “Something To Talk About” either, even though she does love that song. She’s just as likely to sing one of Raitt’s lesser known songs, such as one of her other favorites, “Silver Lining.”
